Harris selected as SIAC Newcomer of the Week

ATLANTA - Following a standout performance in Saturday's loss at Lane College, Kentucky State's Reginal Harris was named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's Newcomer of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Harris, a junior running back from Miami, Fla., scored both of Kentucky State's touchdowns in the 21-14 loss, breaking a touchdown run of 19 yards in the first quarter and another of 68 yards in the second quarter. Harris topped the 100-yard mark for the second consecutive week, finishing with 142 yards on 17 carries.

On the season, Harris leads Kentucky State and ranks fourth in the SIAC with 493 yards rushing. His average of 6.3 yards per carry is tied for second in the conference.

Harris is the second Thorobred to win Newcomer of the Week honors this season, following Brentton Ervin's selection on Oct. 5 after a win at Benedict. Kentucky State has also claimed three Special Teams Player of the Week awards for a total of five SIAC weekly honors this season.

The Thorobreds wrap up their 2015 schedule when they host Stillman on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
