Rivera, Kyle selected for SIAC weekly volleyball awards

ATLANTA – After splitting a pair of home matches last week, Kentucky State volleyball players Kiara Rivera and Anjelique Kyle were recognized with Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference weekly honors on Tuesday. Rivera was named the SIAC Defensive Player of the Week, while Kyle was selected as the Setter of the Week.

Rivera, a senior defensive specialist from Puerto Rico, led Kentucky State with 26 digs across two matches last week, recording 13 each in a five set win over Asbury on Tuesday and a loss to St. Catharine on Thursday. For the season, Rivera leads the Thorobrettes with 365 digs.

Kyle had a big day as Kentucky State pulled out the 3-2 win over Asbury, leading all players with 44 assists and eight aces. She followed that performance with another 25 assists against St. Catharine. For the year, she leads the Thorobrettes with 756 assists and 59 aces.

No strangers to SIAC awards, the Defensive Player of the Week award is Rivera's fourth this season, and the Setter of the Week award is Kyle's third. Their successes this season follow a 2014 campaign in which Kyle was selected as the SIAC's Setter of the Year and Rivera the Newcomer of the Year.

The Thorobrettes take a 19-11 overall record and 17-1 SIAC record into an Ohio road trip in which they will face Cedarville and Central State on Tuesday at Cedarville before playing again at Central State on Wednesday.
