Men’s Track Places Seventh at Conference Championship; Deven Boxx Most Valuable Field Performer

ATLANTA, Ga. (April 21, 2012)—Kentucky State University's Men's Outdoor Track and Field Team competed in the 2012 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship and placed seventh overall. The meet, hosted by Morehouse College, took place April 19-21 at B.T. Harvey Stadium.
 
Highlighting this year's competition for the Breds was Deven Boxx, who was named Most Valuable Field Performer, along with Isaiah Leggette of Albany State University (26 points) and Brandon Johnson of Benedict College (26 points). Boxx won the shot put and hammer throw with tosses of 13.62 meters and 44.53 meters, respectively. Boxx also placed third in the javelin with a throw of 48.29 meters. His mark in the hammer was a NCAA provisional qualifying distance and helped him scored 26 of KSU's 51 points.
 
Other top finishers for KSU include Cory Spalding, who finished fourth in the decathlon with 5,303 points. Spalding also finished fifth in the high jump (1.87 meters), while his brother, Chris Spalding, finished sixth in the triple jump (13.85 meters). Terry Horton placed sixth in the shot put (12.56 meters) and seventh in the hammer throw (27.31 meters).
